With reference to semi-official correspondence
between Kr. Martin, Chief Passport Officer, and Mr. Beckett
ending with the former's letter of January 7th last, in
regard to the endorsement of the passport of Mr. E.0. Maempel to allow him to travel in the Far East via Hong Kong and Singapore, I am directed by the Marquess Curzon of Kedleston
to transmit herewith copy of a letter from Messrs. Ashurst,
Morris, Crisp and Company complaining of the action of the police at Singapore in requiring Mr. Maempel to give an
account of his movements.
2. I am to enquire what reply should, in the opinion of Mr. Secretary Churchill, be returned to Messrs. Ashurst,
Morris, Crisp and Company.
